Boat Donor Program
Started in 2004, the Boat Donor Program enables individuals to support the Mathews Maritime Foundation by donating and purchasing donated boats. Boat donors can claim a tax deduction based on the boat’s sale amount collected by the Foundation.

Gilbert Klingel’s Freya is for sale!
Freya, a 30-foot, steel-hulled sloop, built by Gilbert Klingel in 1953 at his Gwynn’s Island boat yard, is for sale. The Maritime Foundation intended to incorporate Freya as a vocational training and volunteer project, but those plans haven’t worked out. It’s now time to part ways with this notable and historic sailing vessel. Freya is in need of major restoration work. She is afloat at the Mathews Maritime Foundation boat shop dock on Gwynn’s Island. Sale includes the installed Beta Marine diesel, rigging, sails, cushions and extant fittings, all in “as is” condition. To arrange an inspection and discuss the terms of sale, contact Mike at 804-384-1822. The Foundation asks for only serious inquiries from individuals or organizations fully capable of restoring Freya.
